New Wave Reception

Posted in 2011, melty faces, men, mixtape, music, world with tags , , , on December 20, 2010 by Shiv

6 months ago, I began a blog of my own so that I could make podcasts, practice mixing. That blog, at this point, has become its own thing I suppose. While I’ve posted some several mixtapes, nothing after the original ‘cast. I thought I’d give this one a wider release. It’s one I’ve been thinking about for a while now.

Basis: It seems that last year’s chillwave movement — while it may have outlived GoogleWave — has officially become boring: utterly beached. Sun’s gone. Night’s come.  Teen – age – Ice – age. And with this Night, comes glimmering synths, handclaps & drummachines, croons. Consider Twin Shadow, who with his ’10/10′ Forget pulled it off all so well. With 2011, let’s usher in the overly sentimental, the too articulate. In 2011, let’s smile till it hurts.

Project: Here are some new wave tracks from all around the world. I’ve used several from a selection of killer vietnamese/german new wave tapes I’ve come across since September as well as some perhaps more familiar selections. I’ve done some reversing, some sampling of my own, and had a wonderful time mixing it all together. It’s a blast. I hope you like it. Fill up your pencaps and Have a Happy New Year.

UNBLOG un blog

Posted in music with tags , on September 20, 2008 by Shiv

In conversation with both John and Greg, this blog has come up numerous times. It isn’t daily…mostly weekly and worth a look at…and in most cases, a listen to.  OngakuBaka is he. I don’t know. They should be added to our blogroll. I should probably do that now. Either way, Greg, John and whoever else wants some music…this blog is fun and (fairly) consistant.

Also, I especially recommend the Women – Women (2008) download It’s been said that they resemble at times “The Velvet Underground, at others This Heat, and even others Swell Maps.” I like all three. This album is fantastic.

Dogs and Cats in the Morning

I visited Tremble today and found some pictures of some cute animals.
Although Todd Levin (of Tremble) has the Corgi listed as his least favorite dog ever, he made two exceptions, which I think are quite agreeable:
1. Corgi with Wheels:

and 2. Corgi on its back:

These Corgis are better than your typical Corgi, Todd, I agree.

— And to top it off, he posted a picture of his cats which is just ridiculously cute.

Animals make the internet run.

New roller:

Today kottke.org turns ten. Blogs are now in their pre-teens. Their balls are about to drop and are just waiting for their braces to come off.

Just to fill in the uninformed, hes the man doing what we do a few times better and gets all the internet fame. I figure he gave Shiv and I enough things to post here so I’ll pay my respects to one of the originators.

Heres just a few great things he’s posted in the last few days:

Summing up the post Spitz thoughts on prostitutes- this should add fuel to a fire.

The best art around the world- an expensive itinerary.

That facial expression Micah was trying to write in his script now has a name – bershon.

And maybe the most exciting, the best fonts of 2007.

Strange Maps Blog

One more for the roll. And this one’s not insulting to any race. It’s a blog about strange maps! For example, here’s the map that led me to this blog:

Yes, it’s The Blue Planet, the song, the map! You can apparently listen to this song here, but Sara and I don’t really believe it.
