Drinks on Me

Posted in A Put It Up Summer, friends, G&T's on August 20, 2010 by John

I know I’m not in a cocktail rut. I just had a very good day at Bev&Mo. I did see these two drinks and I felt compelled to post them. So just in case you are:

Cucumber-Rosemary Gin and Tonic

1 cucumber
1 lime
3 sprigs rosemary
2 oz. Hendrick’s Gin
4 oz. tonic water (preferably Q or Fever-Tree)

Peel one half of a cucumber, and slice a lime into eight wedges. In a highball glass, add three slices of peeled cucumber, 1 sprig rosemary, juice from a lime wedge and 1 ounce gin. Muddle with the back of a spoon.

Strain through a mesh strainer into a second highball glass. Add several cubes of ice, and three slices of unpeeled cucumber. Top with remaining gin and tonic, and serve garnished with rosemary sprigs. VIA

1 1/2 ounce rye (or bourbon)
3/4 ounce Campari
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
lemon zest for garnish

Combine liquid ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until cold. Strain into a cocktail glass. Squeeze your lemon zest over the surface of the drink, run it along the rim, and drop it into the glass. VIA

“Midnight in Dostoevsky” / More Monsters

By Don Delillo. Another steal from the New Yorker this week. And that makes 3 about/from New York this week. All I have to say, I suppose, is that I live on the West Coast. And I live in a big house. And maybe I don’t blog enough.

While I’m at it, I’d also like to introduce my Portland family to the blog. Beth’s joined us already with a good post on pop. And Brad, the last quarter of NE Monroe will hopefully join soon and I’m sure provide a lot of corn. Muahaaa,

Now, THAT said, do you guys remember Wes’s “Dummy Monster” story from way back when? Well, for those that haven’t heard it, ask someone who has or just believe these ones we (Beth) recently found on the interweb. The information highway has become a farily big place, I’d say. Good thing we have this small space to talk about it. I hope to hear from all of you regarding this matter.

Summer Drool II

For those of you that liked the mixtape I made around this time last year–and for those that didn’t–I’d like to preset its follow-up, Summer Drool II.  Although I wasn’t planning on putting this up for a while, I took a walk to get some cocktails with it yesterday and felt arguably drunker on the way there than the way back. Unlike my last few mixtapes which may have (hopefully) inspired some head, ear or heartache, the Drool tapes’ purpose is simply to share some no-fuss, feel-good pop music. I hope that at some point this  can be heard with good company on a patio at twilight (drink in hand). And if the job’s done right, 30-minutes in everyone should be dancing on chairs by pounding fists into the air–or at least behaving like these hooligans: delightc

With 17 hearty summertime songs, I think I’ve put enough together to endure a long hot season, wherever you may be. And yes, Summertime Clothes is on it. Find the rest of the track list after the clicker. Continue reading

Oregon Fail.

In the spirit of cliche nostalgia, I found a site where you can play Oregon Trail for free.  I used to think I was quite the wagon master, but here is what happened on just my first river crossing…

Apparently, oxen and my friends cant swim.

Apparently, oxen and my friends can't swim.

I lost 75% of my food, some best friends, and worst of all, 3 of my 4 oxen!  I mean, its no Donner Party, but still, ouch. Here’s the link, if you want to play.

Oh, everything.

I spent the last few hours going through old videos and photos of us in our best days. Here are a few gems.

as a blogger to tell the public about everything Hot Chip does here’s a great B-side One Kraft Dinner via a blog I’ve never heard of but somehow came across today today. Theres a cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” out there that I will pay good money for if someone finds it for me.

Also Hot Chip is now an official category on our site.
