Been listening to a lot of hard bop in New York, and since coming home. Three albums in particular are great, two of which I picked up on vinyl at a shop in Brooklyn.  I’d rip and upload but the needle needs replacing and you wouldn’t get the sound quality even an mp3 could provide.

To start, I’ve linked my favorite Miles Davis album, Walkin’ with the All Stars (Prestige, 1954)

Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage (Blue Note, 1965). A roaring, trembling and sometimes serene, pattering portrait that is considered one of the best jazz albums of all time (for 12 bucks!)

This one I listened to twice this morning, Perkins and co. at their best (see discography!).
