Art or Furniture? You Decide.

Well, call me an art critic! Take this quiz and see if you have enough of an eye to see how much BS the art market is.  Half the things here are available at Wal-Mart, the other half are pieces by the minimalist artist Donald Judd.

Graydon Parrish, a painter, created the quiz with Mikhail Simkin, an electrical engineer at UCLA, and it’s effective both as a clever time-waster and as offbeat art-world commentary. As you try to decide whether a plain-looking bookcase is a “priceless” (the quiz’s term) Judd work or something you’d buy for a dorm room, you’ll get a tutorial in the larger question of just what makes art, art.

So, before you run out to the gallery, stop by your local Wal-Mart, you just might find yourself a deal…  VIA

  1. Well, I guess I know my art. I got a big 100% on the quiz.

  2. I got 100% Too. … Here is the trick… the background… If it looks like its in a museum .. its Judd.. if it looks like its floating in air, ready for catalog print then it’s furniture. (Except the last one that doesn’t look like a museum) Also knowing what the assignment is makes it easier.
