Rainy Day Soul

Look at that! Rain! Here’s something to warm you up a bit. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I probably won’t be providing the new music on this blog, so here are some more dusty old records.

V.A. – Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration (Disc 1)

Stax was the Motown of the south. It had stars like Otis Redding, Issac Hayes, Sam & Dave, and the never quite as popular as she should have been, Carla Thomas. For those unfamiliar, the Stax sound had more horns and less harmonies compared to Motown, and the label defined the Southern Soul sound. This comp came out last year and did a great job putting together hits with lost gems. Try it out before the rains pass. It’ll be worth it.
