John and Brazil? I wouldn’t have guessed.

Here’s what I’ve had on repeat for the last couple days.

Cartola -S/T

The man was one of the stalwarts of samba. Even though Cartola had been around since the 20s and was the head on one of Rio’s bigger samba schools, his first record, this one right here, was put out in 1975. After all those years, he had a good amount of tunes to draw on, and there are twelve gems in here. Basically, the guy’s silly influential and it all showed up on tape. Limited interest? Maybe, but it is free…
