Meta WHAT?
So if you were bored on the internet this week you might have come across a video of a bird shitting in a reporter’s mouth. This was a fake. But there’s more things going on here than you’d think. Ole’ Bobby Odenkirk was behind it, as it turns out, and this fake was only made to get you to watch a fake documentary about using a fake video to sell a fake soda? I think I’m confused too. VIA
Also M. Gondry redid his the trailer for his own movie the way the characters do in Be Kind Rewind. (Watch the original trailer first, it’ll make more sense).
What does this all mean? Has the wild west of YouTube been domesticated? Audiences have been figured out, it seems. Whether it’s Gondry getting the ad campaign for his new movie (out 2/22/08!) put up here twice, or Bob Odenkirk flipping off the internet as a whole, the age of the random video making it’s way to you is quickly dieing. I know that there are very serious sociology reports on the maturation of the YouTube video, and I don’t mean to make a fool of myself, but it is interesting to note. Discuss below.
